EUTHANASIA

Euthanasia in pets is the practice of ending a pet’s life to relieve pain and suffering. Rest assured that it is a painless death, euthanasia literally means 'gentle death'.

It is accomplished by an intravenous injection of a concentrated dose of anaesthetic.

Here at The Providence Veterinary Clinic, we understand that the decision to end a life is never easy or taken lightly. It is a personal, loving decision often considered because our companion’s quality of life has deteriorated to an unacceptable level due to injury, old age or illness.

A pet's life can end under different circumstances:
  • to end suffering caused by old age, illness or injury
  • because your pet’s condition or illness has no cure and the best that can be done is to end his suffering
  • you might decide not to pursue a surgical or medical treatment in an ageing pet
Our experienced veterinaries and staff will offer you the best medical advice to support you in this difficult decision and will offer only the greatest gentlest care to your loved one. Please do not hesitate to contact us for advice, an appointment or urgent care.
