STERILISATION AND CASTRATION

Desexing is a surgical procedure that removes a part of the reproductive organ of the animal whilst he is under general anaesthesia to inhibit the animal’s potential to reproduce.

Desexing (also known as castration, sterilization, neutering) is mainly opted for to prevent unwanted litters of kittens and puppies that might end up eventually in animal shelters.

However, there are many other important benefits to be considered: :
  • desexing stops cycles, associated bleeding and need for male attention
  • reduces the risks of many types of tumours (i.e. tumours in ovaries, uterus)
  • reduces the risks and eliminates the risk of certain cancers (i.e. testicular cancer)
  • reduces the risk of many diseases (i.e. prostatic disease)
  • as a treatment to certain diseases (i.e. pyometra)
Desexing is a personal decision, but please know that our veterinaries and nurses are available to provide you with more information and walk you through the procedure and the associated costs.

Rest assured that our facility is well equipped, and our staff is competent and experienced to perform the procedure.
